SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) - The of the first of many projects to be executed by the Lions Club for this Lionistic year will be a welcome back to school pep rally.  The rally will be held on the first day back to school Monday August 13th at both the Orange School and the Asha Stevens Hillside Christian School, the civic organization announced in a press statement on Thursday.

“The objective of our "Welcome Back" Pep Rally is for members of the Sint Maarten Lions Club to officially welcome back all students and their teachers at the beginning of the new school year.

“We believe that this exercise will boost the morale, encourage and motivate all students and teachers to do their best and be successful for this year as they realize that there are others in the community who are very interested in their performance.

“The scheduled time for the pep rally is slated for 7 am at the Oranje School in Philipsburg and 7.30 am at the Asha Stevens School. Lions will stand at the entrance of the school mentioned to greet and meet the students as they walk in.

“President of the Club Lion Carmen Lake  said that as a club we hope that the Pep Rally will help excite the students as they begin a new school year but will also help especially the very young new students transition into their new school.

“In her acceptance speech at the beginning of the new Lionistic year the new Lions President said she firmly believes that our children are not only a gift, but they are our legacy and we must do everything in our power to ensure that our legacy lives on and thrives.

“One of the many projects the new board focus on will be is combatting hunger in our community. She mentioned of plans which are already in the making, to build a state-of-the-art Kitchen at the Lion’s Den to prepare breakfast for the elementary schools located on the Dutch side of Sint Maarten.

“Most of her other plans include creating emergency shelters, youth sports, arts and educational programs for children. Our children she said needs a good strong foundation, and we must do everything in our power to ensure they have. The Pep rally on Monday she hopes will motivate the children to stay focus study and to get all excited about learning and school.”
