SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) - St. Maarten’s largest volunteer-driven community service event, recently held its first information session and registration workshop for the 2019 edition of SXM DOET which will be held on Friday March 15th and Saturday March 16 of next year.
Project Managers Laura Bijnsdorp, Melanie Choisy and Fleur Hermanides hosted over 40 persons representing many St. Maarten’s foundations, associations and community groups at the University of St. Martin last Saturday November 17th. The goal of the 2-hour information session and workshop was to encourage the registration of fun and creative projects for the what is to be the event’s 5th year anniversary.
“For our 5th year we are not necessarily focusing on the quantity of projects and volunteers, but rather the quality of the overall experience,” said Melanie Choisy, President of the Be The Change Foundation which hosts the event locally in conjunction with the Oranje Fonds in the Netherlands.
The session, geared towards organizations who want to host projects for which they need the help of volunteers to complete, focused on planning, execution and promotion of a successful project, along with a step-by-step instructional on how to navigate the newly updated sxmdoet.com website. A workshop followed the main information session for those who wanted assistance and advice with registering their projects online.
Foundations, schools, associations, sports teams, clubs, church and youth groups are all encouraged to participate in SXM DOET 2019 by either hosting a project themselves or by signing up to volunteer.
For those who missed out on the session and would like to register with the help of the project managers, there will be an “open day” for information and registration on December 13th from 12pm to 6pm at the Samenwerkende Fonds office located in the KPMG building in Madame Estate.
