SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) - To help with the recovery in Haiti, the Interact Club of the St. Dominic High School organized a fundraising in the form of a “Dress up” and collected a total of USD $574.52.
The funds were presented to District 7020 Governor (DG) Louis Wever, alongside Rotarian Advisor Jon Hart from the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten-Mid Isle on Tuesday August 31st. DG Louis Wever commended President Lehar Marata for her club’s creative way to raise such funds and said that Haiti needs all the help they can get.
A considerable amount of relief supplies has and continue to arrive at Haiti. On August 14th a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck the Tiburon Peninsula in the Caribbean nation of Haiti. The deadliest earthquake and deadliest natural disaster of 2021, it is the worst disaster to strike Haiti since the 2010 earthquake.At least 136,800 buildings were damaged or destroyed, the water supply and quality were affected. At least 2,207 people were confirmed killed, 12,268 injured, and 320 still missing according to the latest stats of August 26th.
The Interact Club of the St. Dominic High would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to all students and teachers of the school for their kind contributions towards this initiative. The club would also like to wish the people of Haiti much strength and speedy recovery at this time.
