French side Introduces Night-time Curfew as of May 30. Two persons die Wednesday due to COVID-19

SAINT-MARTIN (MARIGOT) – The Prefecture of Saint-Barths and Saint-Martin, on Thursday in a press statement says that due to the continual increase in COVID-19 cases on the French side of the island, a curfew will be introduced on Sunday, May 30 from 8.00PM to 6.00AM, and this will continue to Wednesday, June 9.

The measure according to the state Government representative is necessary in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.  During the week of May 17-23, there were an additional 122 positive cases; two persons died as a result of COVID-19 on Wednesday and eight persons are currently hospitalized at the Louis Constant Fleming Hospital in Marigot.

Travel will be prohibited during the curfew period on the French side.

Only those with a compelling reason, will be allowed to move from one location to the next after they submit an application and receive a certificate of approval.

Requests can be made via the state representative website: www.saint-barth-saint-martin.gouv.fr

The Prefect reminds everyone that vaccination is the main tool to stem the spread of the epidemic. The territory of Saint-Martin has a vaccination center in Galisbay, and it renews its call for a mobilization of all in the fight against the virus through vaccination. Only a mass mobilization will achieve collective immunity in the territory, so the population is invited to participate widely in this vaccination campaign.
