SAINT-MARTIN (MARIGOT) – The United Women Book Club (UWBC) was feeling very excited yesterday at the Shy Snack in French Cul de Sac to be standing alongside with a man of the soil who has invested so much for this community through culture and education, UWBC said in a media statement on Monday.

“We are more than sure that the conversation about his latest book Big Rock “King of the rock” left the audience reminiscing about the good old days and reflecting on their childhood on this island. We were also inculcated with some historic memories.

“Robert Romney is not only an author but is also a former English teacher and an English inspector. In 2007, he was appointed as the representative of the Rector of the Academy of Guadeloupe for the Collectivities of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthelemy.

“We continue to empower one book at a time because reading empowers us to embark on positive journeys in life, connect with others and even better, when the writers are local, it makes us feel good about ourselves.

“The more we read, the more we think, the more we think, the more write, the more we write the more we impact and grow,” the statement concludes.

UWBC Founder, Danielle Chance took some time out also at the event to remind the audience of their mission and vison.

“We go beyond reading, this platform creates and encourages sisterhood through literature. We don’t only bring women into our sphere to enhance vocabulary and speech, but we are bonding and building a community and leaving our traces on society,” Chance said.
