SINT MAARTEN (POND ISLAND) - On Friday, January 10, 2020, the University of St. Martin held its orientation day for the new students starting their spring semester on Monday, January 13th, 2020. The orientation aims to ensure that the students are fully prepared and registered for their classes and for their academic journey ahead.
The new students received a warm welcome from their Dean of Academic Dr. Carter who always encourages students to take their academic journey serious and despite the challenging times that may lie ahead to aim beyond the stars. She shared her experience of her journey being a student at USM and then furthering her specialties abroad in Canada where she obtained her Doctorate degree.
The students underwent an academic writing courses, a meet and greet session with their respective Division Heads, a presentation from the St. Maarten Study Financing Division, USM Counselor, and received key study tips from Alumna Micaela Hart who also works a USM now as the GED Coordinator and active throughout various clubs in the community. The students left feeling motivated more than ever to start their classes on Monday.
Mr. Kharl Oliver (USM Marketing assistant and Alumna campaign leader) represented the student Ambassadors and, SGA members Hanisha Wadhwani and Tamoya Bartley presented various clubs and activities students have the opportunities to build their social skill and competencies while working engaging in their hobbies.
Marketing and Admissions specialist Ms. Shobhan Giterson said we will be soon providing our existing students with their own orientation as a refresher and boast towards accomplishing their end goal at USM. This semester 23 new students have been admitted to the degree programs.
Ms. Giterson encourages anyone who is interested in applying for the Summer semester to come in for information. The application period is now open for the 2020 Summer semester (which starts in June 2020) and closes on Friday, April 10th, 2020.
