SINT MAARTEN/CURACAO – The Parliament of Sint Maarten Permanent Committee on Justice will meet in session on Thursday to discuss a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system for the country to combat crime. In the meantime, Curacao’s Minister of Justice Hon. Nelson Navarro, is moving ahead with a Naf.6.2 million guilder CCTV project that is being provided by the Chinese Government.
A Memorandum of Understanding according to reports has already been signed for the project. The object of the project is to enhance security on the island in the fight against crime.
The United Kingdom is considered the leader in CCTV community security.
The cameras will first be installed in high frequented tourist areas such as Punda and Otrobanda.
The Chinese company assisting with the project is Inspur Group Ltd.
Initially the project was to be implemented January 1, 2015, but it has been delayed.
