Results of the annual SMSEF Interscholastic Soccer Tournament for February 7

BELVEDERE – Another great game took place at the Johan Cruijff Court in Belvedere on Saturday, February 7. The soccer event is organized by the St. Maarten Soccer Educational Foundation (SMSEF).

Results of Saturday February 7, 2015:

Game 1: Category 13+U

Combine 13+U vs Oranje Combine: result 9 – 0 (at halftime 3 - 0)

Top scorer Combine 13+U: Michael Peterson with 8 goals. Michael Peterson was assisted twice by Akim Bansingh who also scored a goal on his own.

Combine 13+U, even though not yet in full force, played well in their first game of this year’s tournament. Oranje School in the meantime has changed into Oranje Combine for the continuation of the tournament. Even though the team lost again, one of the players was happy to report that the team is “getting better” (the score was kept in the single digits this week in comparison to the first game).

Game 2: Category 13+U

Learning Unlimited vs Dr. Martin Luther King: result: 7 – 2 (at halftime 3 - 0)

The result of the game is momentarily under review. Depending the outcome thereof the result is not official.

Game 3: Category 11+U

Learning Unlimited Legends vs Learning Unlimited Goal Machines: result 0 - 22 (at halftime 0 - 13)

Top scorers Learning Unlimited Goal Machines: Last year’s top scorer in the 11+U category Noah Ledee (with 92 goals) and his team mate Jan Lucas van der Plas had no mercy with their school buddies of Learning Unlimited Legends. Noah Ledee scored 8 goals and Jan Lucas van der Plas 7 goals and 2 assists. Oliver Hobgood was good for 3 goals and 1 assist.

Game 4: Category 13+U

Ruby Labega vs Genevieve de Weever: result 14 – 3 (at halftime 4 - 3)

Top scorer Ruby Labega: Jean Phillip Pierre with 3 goals and 2 assists. However the end result of the game was a real team effort.  Players scoring each 2 goals for Ruby Labega were Jamal Taylor (+2 assists), Ricardo Somers (+3 assists), Franzi Placius and Revaldo Evans (+1 assist).

Goal scorers Genevieve de Weever: Allex Rodrick with 2 goals and 1 assist and Ranjer Tejaolas with 1 goal and 2 assists.

It was Genevieve de Weever’s first game in this year’s tournament. Genevieve de Weever put up a good fight, especially in the first half, and the team was able to keep the score tight until halftime. In the second half the goal keeper of Genevieve de Weever made two costly mistakes that both times resulted in an own goal. Genevieve had a hard time to regroup their efforts after that. Ruby Labega made the most of the situation and scored in quick succession before Genevieve de Weever could recover from the shock.

Game 5: Category 11+U

Sr. Magda FC vs Hillside Christian: result 5 - 4 (at halftime 5 - 1)

Goal scorers Sr. Magda FC: Jamir Cuvalay with 3 goals and 2 assists and Jaden Leonard with 2 goals and 1 assist.

Goal scorers Hillside Christian: Adel Ibrahim with 3 goals and Ty Farguharson with 1 goal.

Maybe the best game of the day. Both teams showed great technical skill and passing game which was much appreciated by the connoisseurs of the ‘beautiful game’ in attendance. The partial spectator probably enjoyed the thrill of the close game and the passion displayed by both teams even more.

Game 6: Category 11+U

Leonald Connor vs Dr. Martin Luther King: result 7 - 1 (at halftime 4 - 1)

Top scorers Leonald Connor: Esner Ilceus and Tyrese Whyte both with 3 goals.

The lone goal scorer for Dr. Martin Luther King was not known at press time.

Game 7: Category Girls 13+U

Hillside Christian All Stars vs Dr. Martin Luther King: result 6 – 2 (at halftime 2 - 0)

Goal scorers Hillside Christian All Stars: Desreena Boston with 4 goals and 2 assists and Zanzi Brook with 2 goals and 2 assists.

Goal scorer Dr. Martin Luther King: Britany York score on an assist by Kaleisha Davis. The second goal awarded to Dr. Martin Luther King was the result of an own goal.

Game 8: Category Girls 13+U

Leonald Connor vs Sr. Regina: result 2 – 0

Forfeit by Sr. Regina (not enough players to start the game). Instead a friendly match was played with the players that did show up for the game to represent Sr. Regina vs Leonald Connor. The result of the friendly was 6 – 1 in favor of the Leonald Connor selection. Good effort from all the players involved.

Game 9: Category 9+U

Sr. Magda Energetics vs Dr. Martin Luther King: result 3 – 0 (at halftime 1 - 0)

Goal scorers Sr. Magda Energetics: Jorginho Singodikromo with 2 goals with an assist by Alex Speetjens and Safin Basir with 1 goal and 1 assist.

Great game for both teams. The goal keeper of Dr. Martin Luther King, Thierady Best, put up a great effort and made many saves including a penalty kick. Sr. Magda Energetics however kept pressing which resulted in three well-deserved goals. The Sr. Magda tactic was not without its moments of danger. In order to put as much pressure as possible on the Dr. Martin Luther King defense, the Sr. Magda defenders moved up to the middle line. This resulted in some close calls in the back. The team risked putting a Dr. Martin Luther King striker in a one on one with goal keeper Jalielle Blackman. However, defenders Mario Busby and Alex Speetjens were able to defuse the situation each time that it occurred.

Game 10: Category 9+U

Charles Leopold Bell vs Sr. Regina New Stars: result 0 – 2

Forfeit by Charles Leopold Bell (not enough players to start the game). Instead a friendly match was played with the players that did show up for the game on time. After the allotted waiting time had lapsed and the friendly game was started more players for Charles Leopold Bell arrived to join in. The result of the game, nonetheless, was already determined by that time.

Game 11: Category 9+U

Leonald Connor vs Combine Silly Shooters: result 1 - 13

Top scorers Combine Silly Shooters: Harrison Hobgood with 7 goals and Xabel Dias with 3 goals and 1 assist. Playmaker Nigel Laurenceau was good for 4 assists and 2 goals.

The lone goal scorer for Leonald Connor was Iverson Powell.

The tournament will continue after the Mid-term Break on Saturday, February 21, 2015.
