SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) - In recognition of Rotary’s Water & Sanitation Month, observed in March, the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset carried out several projects aimed towards advocating the importance of access to clean drinking water. On March 29thand on April 4th, members of Rotary Sunset presented two water coolers to the Excellence Learning Academy and to the No Kidding With Our Kids Foundation.

One of Rotary’s key areas of focus involves providing access to clean water. With access to clean water and better sanitation practices, the potential for waterborne diseases decreases and children become healthier.- rotary.org Access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment, thus Rotary Sunset thought it benefit to provide water coolers to both after school programs, with the kind contributions from Heavenly Water.

Members of Rotary Sunset gathered at both establishments to present the two water coolers along with a 5 gallon water each in order to ensure that the students attending these programs have the opportunity to access clean drinking water daily. “In recent years, we have seen major countries facing water shortages and severe droughts, we have also seen the deterioration in developing countries such as Venezuela, where people are struggling to provide food and clean water to the families. Although we are not faced with the imminent threat of such unfortunate events, it is of paramount importance that we keep advocating the importance of having access to clean water and more importantly, it is important to stress the importance of water conservation practices,” President Jaida Nisbett stated.

Rotary Sunset would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Heavenly Water for their generosity and for their continued support throughout the many endeavors of the club. The club would also like to thank the management and staff of the Excellence Learning Academy as well as the No Kidding With Our Kids Foundation for their cooperation in the execution of this project.
