SINT MAARTEN/CURACAO – Reggae lovers can soak up the good vibrations during another concert of the Rootsriders, the popular European Tribute 2 Bob Marley band, featuring the talented and beloved Junior Tecla. After a two-year absence, the band added to their tour, two much anticipated performances in Curaçao and Bonaire.
The Rootsriders started in 2006 and are, without a doubt, considered to be best tribute band of the Reggae legend Bob Marley. Its musicians have accompanied many great Jamaican Reggae artists like Maxi Priest, Gyptian and Gregory Isaacs, during their respective tours through Europe.
A group of colorful musicians and Bob Marley fans, including lead singer Tecla and the then unknown singers Shirma Rouse and Giovanca, organized their first tribute show in Amsterdam to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Bob Marley's death.
Together with friendly colleagues like Typhoon and the Opposites, they put Melkweg on its feet and shortly several successful tours followed. In 2011, they took a break from touring, but after a two-year hiatus, the band, including singer Tecla, were eager to get back on stage.
Fast forward to 2017 and the Rootsriders are more popular than ever. The band is constantly updating the show and repertoire, with a growing fan base that goes beyond the Netherlands and Europe. For Rootsriders, Curaçao and Bonaire are the most beautiful and sociable places they like to perform.
“Unfortunately, it’s not possible to come to the Antilles every year, so we are particularly excited that after 5 years, we are able to perform in Bonaire. The people deserve this party”, tour manager Cyril van Schooten shares.
"Maybe it sounds strange, but once I get on stage, I feel Bob’s spirit. I am deeply into the message of his lyrics", Tecla explains. Besides Reggae and Rootsriders, Tecla is busy with his own compositions and a number of musical projects, but for now remains mum until they are completed.
“I'm delighted to perform with Rootsriders in the Antilles, especially since I get to do it with my cousin singer Tamara Nivillac", Tecla concludes.
